A new type of bioreactor (solid-state) and a newly available type of bacteria (atmMOB) will be tested together for the first time. This research could lead to insights about biological oxidation of atmospheric methane concentrations, and it could address some of the challenges facing bioreactors from addressing increasingly dilute methane sources.
Lisa Y. Stein is an American biologist who is a professor at the University of Alberta. Her research considers the microbiology of climate change. She was awarded the 2022 University of Alberta Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring.
Fang is a staff scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She leads a team to develop novel solid-state bioreactor technology to enable rapid methane conversion by methanotrophs.
Alexander T. Tveit is a microbiologist and associate professor at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. He leads a team studying the physiology of atmospheric methane oxidizing bacteria.
