Danielle (Danie) Potocek, Ph.D.

Deputy Director & Senior Scientist II, Warming-Induced Emissions

Danie Potocek, PhD is a biogeochemist and program deputy at Spark Climate Solutions, where she works on the Warming-Induced Emissions (WIE) program—focused on greenhouse gas emissions from natural systems amplified by climate change. Her work advances the quantification, monitoring, and integration of these emissions into climate science and policy, with a focus on systems such as wetlands, permafrost, inland waters, and wildfires. She helps identify key research gaps, develop field-building strategies, and translate science into actionable pathways for policymakers and funders. Prior to Spark, she worked in environmental and climate policy consulting at local, state, and federal levels. She earned her PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Southern California and completed postdoctoral research at California Institute of Technology. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, running, and exploring the Chesapeake Bay area with her family.
